General Description 
Tiles have two parts which area body and the surface. Tiles basically are divided into two types based on appearance and body type. Based on appearance, tiles are divided into glazed and non-glazed.
Glazed and Non Glazed Tiles
Glazed tiles have thin extra membrane on top of the tile. Non glazed tiles don’t have extra membrane on top of the tile. Tiles are also classified based on water absorption property or porosity. They are as follow:
Vitrified or Porcelain Tiles
Tiles with water absorption value of less than 0.5% is porcelain or vitrified tiles.
Ceramic Tiles
Tiles with water absorption value between 3 to 6% are ceramic floor tiles.
Ceramic Wall Tiles
Tiles with water absorption value between 10 to 15% is normally used for walls and known as ceramic wall tiles.
Classification of Vitrified Tiles
Vitrified tiles are further divided into following types
Double Charged Vitrified Tiles – Two layers of composition present in body. They have following properties
Scratch resistance of double charged tile will be more compared to that of GVT tiles.

Better life
Good for places with 10-11 people.
Full Body Vitrified Tiles – Whole body of single composition. They have following properties.
No print. So, if even scratched it is of same color. Hence this type of tiles are scratch resistance
Best quality
Best life
Great for public places.
Soluble salt Vitrified Tiles – Basic quality / low cost / short life span
GVT/ P-GVT – Glazed vitrified and polished glazed vitrified. They have the following properties.
GVT tiles will give very high resolution designs.
GVT tiles will have less scratch resistance as it has only a thin printed layer on top of the tile.
GVT tiles with high resistance scratch resistance can come in matt finish.
Good quality / Good life/ Good for family of 4 to 5 people.
Selecting tiles based on aesthetic sense
For small space ( area less than 400 sq.ft ) using Glossy tiles will make room look bigger.
For big space ( area more than 400 sq.ft ) use of matt tiles are recommended.
Colour
For small space ( less than 200 sq.ft ) use of monochromatic tiles for walls and floor tiles will allow for room to appear clean and less busy.
Different color tiles for wall and floor can be explored for bigger rooms.
